Purchase Links Review Let me start by saying that I thought Covered in Coal was good, but Lies Beneath The Surface is brilliant and Silla is an amazing author and all the unanswered questions from Covered in Coal are answered. Lies Beneath The Surface picks up at exactly where Covered in Coal left us hanging. The story continues on with Carly Jo and Colton’s relationship after the discovery of her pregnancy, to say it’s a smooth road to their happy ever after is massive understatement. With all sorts of twists and turns this story is not short of drama at all. The story has a stronger focus on Savannah and Josh and of course Drew Varney’s ugly persona makes an appearance to ruin everyone's day. I can’t say reading Savannah and Josh’s story was easy, cause it wasn’t. What Josh puts his devoted wife through is nothing short of torture. Josh is one of those characters that you just hate in the worse way possible and makes you wish you could actually reach into a book and rip them straight out of it. Even the bonus chapter from his POV couldn’t even get me to feel any form of sympathy for him, but he sure did give it a go. My heart breaks for Savannah, everyone’s lies and secrets have led her to feel so worthless and so afraid. Through her pain Savannah has managed to protect her children from their father’s dark side and he remains the father that they adore. She is a lot stronger than she realises, for someone to live through what she does in the end she will come out on the other side with more strength than she had going in, "What doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger". Does Carly Jo Keep too many secrets? It was driving me crazy that Carly was keeping so many secrets and at one point I considered putting the book down and starting something else especially when the secrets Savannah keeps come to the surface. But in the end the truth comes out and all the secrets are revealed, questions are answered I am so glad I never put the books down. I loved this book as much as I loved Covered in Coal and I am sure I will love Mend The Seams & Depths of Darkness when they are released. Silla Webb is a Kentucky native, raised in the heart of the Eastern Kentucky coal fields. A coal truck driver's daughter, and a railroader's wife, the coal fields own a special place in her heart. She is a work at home, Super Momma to three rowdy boys, who keep her on her feet from daylight to sunset. As a pass time from her everyday life, Silla started a blog-Momma's Secret Book Obsession, for reviewing romance novels. From there, she realized that not only did she have a natural love for reading and reviewing, but she found that lost love of writing that she once had as a young girl. When she isn't conquering the world as a wife, momma and Super Woman, Silla loves to lay on the front porch swing and read while sipping sweet tea, just passin' the day away.
